The SHLAA is being undertaken to show that we have a rolling five year supply of deliverable and developable land for housing. The findings are used to inform the forthcoming Local Development Framework (LDF).
Planning Policy Statement 3: Housing (PPS3) sets out the Government’s objectives for housing. PPS3 requires us, as a Local Planning Authority, to show that we have a rolling five year supply of deliverable and developable land for housing within a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA). The aim is that land availability is not a sole constraint on the building of more homes.
Lewes District Council, in conjunction with planning consultants Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners, produced the 2010 Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments (SHLAA). The SHLAA is an important technical piece of evidence which will inform the emerging Local Development Framework (LDF). We will update the SHLAA annually. The 2011 SHLAA Update is available below.
Please note that the study is not a statement of Council policy and does not in itself determine whether a site should be allocated for housing development (SHLAA Practice Guidance, DCLG, 2007).
The study assesses whether sites submitted to us are either Deliverable (suitable, achievable and available) or Developable (suitable with a reasonable prospect of being available at a specific point in time) for future housing development.
Please see below a schedule of Frequently Asked Questions that may help with some initial queries.
