Tenant Participation

We consult our tenants and leaseholders on the management of their homes to help improve the services we provide.

There are over 20 tenant and resident associations across the district. These come under an umbrella organisation called Tenants of Lewes District.

We have two documents that set out how tenants can get involved. They provide the framework for the delivery of our tenant participation service.

The District Compact

The District Compact was first drafted in August 2000 and updated in June 2002. The latest Compact agreed between the Tenants Of Lewes District and Lewes District was completely rewritten in August 2009 and formally adopted in September 2009.

Council has been formerly adopted at the Tenants Conference on 28th January 2006.

This agreement details how we work in partnership with our tenants to improve housing services. It shows how tenants can get involved in the management of the housing service.

The Compact explains what resources are available to promote tenant involvement. It lists tenant priorities for improvement and details how these will be monitored.

The Tenant Participation Development Plan

This sets out the how Lewes District Council's Tenant Participation Workers will work with each association. It covers neighbourhood issues and priorities for the next two years.

Tenant Resource Centre

This is located at 2a Horsfield Road, Lewes. It provides a range of facilities for newsletter production, photocopying and laminating. Advice for tenant's groups is also available.

Sheltered Forum

Representatives from our sheltered housing schemes meet with the supported housing team management every three months to discuss issues related to sheltered housing tenants.

Tenant Services Authority regulatory framework

This statutory consultation sets out the six standards that social housing providers will have to meet from 1 April 2010. There are two supplementary consultation papers on the use of our powers and on consents to disposals.
