Our Equality Policies and Objectives

We are committed to providing effective services for all the community and to ensuring everyone has equal access to services, information and employment opportunities.

This commitment to equality and fairness can be seen as a theme running through everything we do, and is set out in detail in our Comprehensive Equality Policy.

Equality Objectives

Equality Objectives 2009 - 2012

To identify the needs of local individuals and communities regarding services and
employment.
To ensure equality of access for all to services and information.
To provide equality of opportunity in recruitment, employment and equal pay.
To meet our statutory duties and responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 by giving due regard to the need to eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation; advance equality of opportunity between different groups; and foster good relations between different groups.
To work within the Equality Framework for Local Government to develop a
comprehensive and systematic approach to dealing with equality issues.
To ensure that all councillors, staff and contractors are aware of their
responsibility to promote access, equality and diversity.
To take positive action to identify and address discrimination.

Documents

We are currently working to refresh our Equality Policy and our Equality Objectives and will publish new versions before the existing documents expire in July 2012.
