Our Ambitions

We want to be recognised as a centre of excellence in environmental management and to make sustainable improvements in the quality of life of local communities. We want people to recognise us as a good, well-performing council.

With other organisations in the District, we have consulted local communities to identify issues concerning them.  This has produced a Sustainable Community Strategy for the District which is underpinned by 6 priority themes:

Environment

We aim to protect and enhance the quality of the environment by reducing waste and improving recycling performance, keep local communities clean and safe and maintaining good environmental quality and sustainable land use.

Business & Tourism

We aim to support and promote a diverse and prosperous economy by developing and promoting sustainable tourism and cultural activities, supporting local businesses and the regeneration of our local communities.

Community

We aim to support the housing, health and social needs of everyone in our communities by improving the quality, availability and affordability of housing in the District, supporting the provision of a range of facilities and services that meet local needs and protecting and improving the health and social well-being of everyone in the District.
