Councillors’ Complaints Procedure

You may complain about the conduct of a councillor of Lewes District Council or a councillor of one of our parish or town councils.

An assessment sub-committee can deal with complaints about the behaviour of a councillor.

A complaint must be about why you think a councillor has not followed :

  1. Lewes District Council's Code of Conduct in the case of a District Councillor or
  2. The relevant Town / Parish Council's Code of Conduct in the case of a Town or Parish Councillor.

The sub-committee cannot deal with complaints about other issues not covered by this Code.

To submit a complaint, download and complete our form. This can be returned to:

Chair, Assessment Sub-Committee
The Standards Committee
Lewes District Council
Lewes House
32 High Street
Lewes
East Sussex
BN7 2LX

E-mail complaints marked for the attention of  'Chair, Assessment Sub-Committee' and sent to: catherine.knight@lewes.gov.uk

Please contact the relevant town or parish clerk for details of town and parish councils’ own Codes of Conduct.
