Free Swimming Sessions Extended

Senior SwimmersLewes Leisure Centre and Seahaven Swim and Fitness Centre will continue free swimming sessions until 31 March 2011 for over 60s and during all school holiday periods for under 16s.

Lewes District Council, in partnership with Wave Leisure Trust, are delighted to be able to continue to offer the local scheme which is both affordable and inline with the nationwide Change4Life campaign with the aim of getting local people to lead more active and healthy lives in the run up to London 2012.

Councillor James MacCleary, Lewes District Council’s Lead Councillor for Community said: “This is great news. I hope that this will encourage as many people as possible to make use of our pools in Lewes and Newhaven. It’s vital that despite the squeeze on funding that all councils are facing we continue to find ways of providing initiatives like this to involve our community in using local facilities.”

Peter Crowley, Managing Director for Wave Leisure said: “We are delighted that we are able to continue this initiative for the next 12 months.  Last year we saw 2090 under 16’s and 2116 over 60’s take up the offer and we hope to see this number increase this year.”

The free swimming sessions are scheduled as follows:

Under 16s (ESCC holiday period exclusive sessions)
